Think before you buy, because it’s a toy

Let’s make one question clear first — what is a toy?

A toy is an object for a child to play with, typically a model or miniature replica of something. Toys serve various phases of child development skills at different ages. It is needless to say that toys are very basic and simple things to develop a child’s basic characters and skills like fine motor skill, gross motor skill, cognitive skill etc. The toys engage toddlers into multifarious activities which they enjoy. A toy can stimulate them to perform various activities which are natural and very vital in their growth. A toy can also help to develop social, artistic and emotional skills among the babies. Children aged 1 to 5 can also learn basic mathematics, language using some toys.

New toys are always exciting for children. They start to acquire or gather knowledge from toys without knowing the theory lying behind it. Experts have discovered — babies learn their world by using all five senses: sight, hearing, taste, smell and touch. The toys help the children to learn to control the movements and improve coordination; stacker and jigsaws are that type of toys. Toys help children to figure out how things work. A right toy can teach a child about new ideas and how to use it by extending their imagination power. Beading sets and caterpillar toys are the examples. The toys help the children to solve simple problems, e.g. – Abacus. The toys keep a child engaged, like car toys, musical toys etc. The right toys set the foundation for learning in future life.

We can discuss a little about the period of changes among babies and what is the usual timing to gift what type of toys. From 0 to 1, babies investigate and survey their fascinating new world through their senses, which are rapidly developing as they see, touch, smell, hear and taste everything they possibly can. The babies rely on their eyes and ears only to learn everything in this world. Then at the age of five months, the babies learn to grab or hold something. This is the best time to grab your mobile, when they can’t they cry or sob. Give him rattles to hold at this stage. When a baby is able to sit, the toddler needs a little complicated toy. It is the time to develop the fine and gross motor skills and to develop the hand-eye co-ordination also. Give the kid a top, jigsaw, bird feeder etc. After attaining the age of two years, the baby needs language, mathematical toys. Give him Abacus, Language Truck etc.
