Sometimes I feel, we live in a world where everything is measured in the view of convenience; convenient to purchase, convenient to consume, convenient to carry, convenient to wallet. Too much of convenience leads us to such a situation where we tend to overlook ethics and our social responsibility at a great extent. Moreover, we can’t even imagine how much it affects the lifestyle and living condition which is an irreversible damage to the mankind and nature.

India is a country mixed with various culture and customs. Therefore, our diversity is the only power of identity that the entire world admires. We as a country may not be doing well, as we are still a developing country; not a developed country. Any sector you suggest, India has some tribute from their side to all over the world; or on the other side, some level of contribution or goodness delivered. However, when the question of our own benefit comes, we become SILENT and AFRAID. This allows others to take advantage of this situation; companies make millions of dollars through ads and promises of convenience, a convenience that is mostly treated as fugazy and we are afraid to discuss about it too much. A convenience that most of the urban and semi urban people are so used to, that they do not even question the intention and ethics of sellers and manufacturers.

If we start with fashion industry, India is one of the largest cotton yarn exporter in the world. But Indian fashion industry is flooded with National and International brands and their non cotton, highly water consuming, and highly toxic chemical dyes which leave a non reversible change in the environment.

Now let us take a look at the food industry. Even though we all know preservative is harmful to human body and especially for the children; however most disgusting fact of the food industry is that, the most important information is printed on the packet so tiny that it is hard to be read. That’s the ingredients of that food. Some code names on the top of the pack make it more difficult to understand.

Let’s move to fruits, vegetables and dairy products; undoubtedly it is a black-hole. No one knows what we are eating. Different types of chemical fertilizers and pesticides are added to those fruits and vegetables; animals are treated with antibiotics and steroids. This adds huge profit to the suppliers and vendors but this process slow poisons the health of the consumers in various ways.

If we talk next about FMCG products in our daily life, we will find there are more than 62000+ chemicals are used, in various forms and every year there are 700+ new chemicals are added. Most importantly these chemicals does not directly get into human body, it migrate to human body. This is a big topic for discussion another day. But surprisingly, if we want to find out how regulatory bodies allow industry to use chemicals, you will find there are ZERO study done. It means we are just the Guinea pig in the eyes of those companies.

We are getting too much of convenience at the cost of what? A very important question to ourselves, what we sacrifice in our life to gain that ‘convenience’? We sacrifice a lot; We just don’t realize what our children has to pay to avail a good living condition for the convenience that we are availing today.

With no surprise, unfortunately none of the above information is new to us. Some of you might ask what is the way out then? 1. In the present time, people need to understand the fact that it’s high time and people should think about the well being and plan for a healthy future….. Or else their actions will lead to the overall destruction…..
